The news does that to me. I don’t want to be an ostrich with my head in the dirt but I also don’t want to be inundated with reports of horrific things. It really affects me on a personal level. Then I start worrying about how messed up this world really is and what keeps it all from just imploding upon itself. Scary.

Post amazing cars to cheer me (and the rest of Oppo?) up? :)

Do you guys have a version of 'Private Eye' over in the States? News and current affairs mag, but very funny and sarky. Might give you some light relief to go with your depressing news.

Part of me thinks the worlds always been messed up. We’re just more aware of it due to the information age. Have some winged cars to help you rise above all this misery.

In general, the world is getting better. Truly - despite the fact that there is violence in the news every day, MOST PEOPLE ARE GOOD.

Remember that.

With that said, here are a few Mazdas for you:

I suffer from anxiety, and probably some undiagnosed depression in there and I feel you totally. Cable news is the main reason we cut cable over a year ago. Now I have to seek out news and it’s not just flipping channels and listening to Rachel Maddow or Greg Gutfeld TALK AT ME with less news and more commentary as the years go on. I say narrow your sphere of awareness, don’t expand it. Since the dawn of humanity, most of us only knew what was going on in our families and communities...and in many ways, it’s better that way. I call it being Selectively Amish — pick and choose the technology and information you want to avoid overload.

Yeah. I feel ya.

I have GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Both just attack my mind at no ends sometimes. And, last night, someone on Facebook referenced the 1984 McDonald’s Massacre and it's similarities to what happened in Orlando. Up until then, I'd never heard of the McDonald's event. It was a big mistake reading about it, that's for sure.

GAD here, too (pretty well controlled with Klonopin, and as long as my environment doesn’t get too hectic...but a stressful job and family means a lot of it is out of my control). A lot of people are just monsters. For better or worse, modern society is pretty safe and controlled, which lets us drop our guard more. Not long ago, things like war and disease were widespread, and I swear that desensitizes people to these kinds of things. But the safer and more predictable our modern lives get, the easier it is for us to assume that’s the status quo, and then the harder it is to process things like what just happened. FWIW, my brother went through a serious episode recently (with hospitalization) and basically had to give up social media entirely at his doctor's urging. He’s been about 80% better since then. It was just about too much exposure, and almost all of it to the wrong stuff. (also, sorry I can't post cars to cheer you up — newest Kinja + IE = no pics, no paragraphs, nothing...)

This is based on FBI stats. Might make you feel a little better.

Very interesting. I need to limit my time on it, that’s for sure. That’s one reason I like Oppo so much. It is social media to an extent but mostly about cars. And what isn’t about cars is easy to avoid, unlike Facebook.

I've been on Lexapro since 2005. Started having panic attacks in 2004. My doctor put me on Zoloft and for some reason I didn't do well on it at all. I was sleepy all the time and started forgetting things a lot. Lexapro has been good, though.

Bingo about Oppo. This has been the extent of my “social media” for about 10 years and we’re all here because we like cars, even if we talk about other stuff. I heard Zoloft is very hit & miss...I have a family member who just started on it and it’s not going very well. All those SSRIs and SNRIs make me a little mad because most doctors just guess which one to try, then it can make your life hell for 1-2 months, then you start all over with something else. Glad to hear you've got something that works well for you! As far as panic attacks, I'm a big fan of benzodiazepenes (Xanax, etc), but they're very addictive and you can build up a tolerance quickly, so you have to be very disciplined about not taking them all the time.

I have depression and anxiety and I learned in DBT to avoid things like the news which negatively affect me
